District Level Workshops

Based on the request made by the ToT participants from Rolpa, Jajarkot and Salyan districts, National Peace Campaign (NPC) conducedt a 3-day workshop in May 2003, on conflict resolution and peace-building in these three districts. The training-workshop in 3 districts was an initiative in line with the expectation by the participants from 3 districts, which was facilitated by the NPC. This gave an opportunity for the participants to review their experiences, share personal reflections from the ToT and build up advanced practical training skills.

The need for training-workshops at district level came up during the ToT discussions on strategic planning. The NPC came up with an offer to facilitate the conduct of training on conflict resolution and peace-building in the 3 districts.

The overall purpose of the project in this particular case was to provide a comprehensive conflict resolution and peace-building training program in 3 districts of Nepal. Part of the design was to train prospective peace activists to enable the implementation of this program to be far reaching. The intention of this program was to set up community and district mechanisms and to develop/strengthen networks at national level where the Nepalese people throughout the country could repeat such programs in conflict resolution and peace-building. These networks also served as communication centers to disseminate information about conflict resolution and peacebuilding to begin to build a culture of peace from the grass-roots level that reaches out to all levels of civil society.
